Government College Dharamshala, one of Himachal Pradesh oldest institutions, traces its roots to 1912 when the foundation stone was laid by Sir Louis Dane, the then Lt. Governor of Punjab. It became an intermediate college in 1926, a graduation college in 1947, and the first in the state to introduce postgraduate programs in 1977.
